So don't stone me when I tell you this but, The Last Wingman is the first Wingmen book I have read! *GASP*! I know, I know...or at least I know now! Don't ask me why, I have not excuse, I just have a lot of regret for having missed out on all this sweetness for so long, but I also have a lot of joy knowing I now get to go back and start at the beginning and experience this series for the very first time.I was afraid at the start of this book that I wasn't going to like it, not because the story didn't seem like it was going to be good but because it felt so slow, but you know what, in the end it is the slow burn that makes this book so much more enjoyable. I loved that Jonah and June take there time learning each other. I love that June comes in with preconceived notions that are totally wrong, I love that there is this blend of Pride and Prejudice and Beauty and the Beast to the feel of the back and forth with this couple as they navigate each other. I just plain love the all around sweet feel to this book. It's a slow and steady pace that makes you wish you could head out into the woods, set up your tent, light a campfire, warm some hot cocoa, and roast some marshmallows as you read. I need some early summer nights of camping in my life right now!One of my absolute favorite things about this book and I am kind of hoping I will see it in the previous ones as well when I go back, all the literary references! Watership Down makes an appearance, (my 13 year old was ecstatic about this fact!) lots of fantastic Harry Potter references, Ravenclaw for the win, be still my nerdy heart! Which brings be to something else I loved. Jonah! I could release with him on so many levels, a bit 'long in the tooth', tattooed, pierced, (though no gauges for me) Ravenclaw, love to play dress up, in general an odd little nerd! To me there was just so much to love about him, his patience, his sweentness, his little pervy side. He is the total do not judge a book by it's cover package and I could't get enough of him. It took me a while to warm up to June because she comes in so judgmental in the beginning but by the end she had me swooning too!I can't say that this is the perfect end to the series since I haven't read the other books but I can say it is a great read and I can't wait to dive into the 5 previous books now. Get this one on your TBR and just get ready for a perfectly wonderful time and if you can read it while out enjoying all that nature has to offer more the better!

Jonah and June are just the best. They're #relationshipgoals. They are gentle and kind and perfect for each other and their journey to come together is everything I want to read in a romance novel! The Last Wingman is a leisurely walk down lover's lane to arrive at one of the sweetest, brightest, truest, happily-ever-afters I've ever read! Jonah is a nerd covered in tattoos and piercings. He's the poster boy for "Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover." And, he's just what June needs most.Because this is the final book in the Wingman Series, this book also gave me some tears. Not that this story is sad, it's not at all! But, I will miss John, Tom, Dan, Jonah and the Kelso brothers! They've been such a welcome and wonderful part of my reading and blogging journey over the last few years. While I will miss them terribly, the beauty of books is that they will always be there for me, just as they are, when I want to go back for a visit. And, isn't that part of what's wonderful about books? We can read, relate to and love these characters. It is like we build our own relationship with each of them particularly in a really wonderful series that builds such a strong sense of place and the vibe of a whole island and its' people. The Last Wingman is receiving a rare 6-Rating on BFF Book Blog because it completely illustrates everything that I have loved about this series. It is warm, cozy, heart-felt, full of friendship, quirks and incredible characters. It will have a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. If you haven't read The Wingmen Series, now is the time to start. Spend some time in Whidbey with the Wingmen and their lady loves. You won't regret a minute of your stay! Godspeed to my fictional friends. An advance copy of this book was received from the author. Receipt of this copy did not impact the content or independence of this review. BFF Book Blog also uses a set of icon ratings. This book received additional icons for: butterflies, cast of characters, character development, funny, hero, romance, supporting characters, sweet, tears, world creation and happily ever after.

Loved. Loved. Loved. Loved The Last Wingman! It is a gloriously final course to Daisy Prescott’s Wingmen Series. If you haven't made the journey through these wonderful books, you are missing an amazing collection of stories. Through her words, Daisy is an extraordinary tour guide, letting her readers experience the beauty of her beloved Pacific Northwest, through they of her characters. If I close my eyes, I can just smell the salt air with with hints of garlic knots...Jonah Kingston has been elusive throughout the series, but here we get to know him. Really, really know him. He’s more than the hipstery coffee guy with his body a canvas of ink. He is a man who loves his community, poetry and pinball. Even beyond that he has a heart that is bigger and kinder than anyone could imagine. I absolutely adored him.At first blush, June Moxee, the proprietress of a yarn shop is the island sweetheart in the making. But like Jonah, but beneath her lovely dresses, fabulous glasses and delightful puns is a complex woman who has so much to give.Together they are as magical as the place that they call home. With more stops than starts, Jonah and June's road to HEA has some bumps, as they are on the island. With each turn, I fell harder and harder for not only this couple but everyone around them.I am not sad that this is the final book, I am happy to have experienced all these characters. I can say without a doubt each one of the books in the Wingmen series has a very special place in my heart. I know that whenever I need to take a trip to the PNW, I have the power to do so at my fingertips. That's the beauty of reading, friends.Happy reading.Laurie's Rating 10+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ STARS

This book is about Dawn, one of the new members in the club. It is a great book but has a different illustrator than the previous four. It talks about Dawn's life and how she babysits two little kids. The end has a scary part, not for younger (7 and under) kids.

My daughter loves graphic novels especially the Baby-sitters Club series-so naturally when this newest edition came out we pre-ordered right away. She was so excited the day it came in the mail! If you have second/third graders and you have a hard time getting them engaged in reading I highly suggest this series, it’s hilarious, beautifully illustrated, and an all around great story line that keeps the kids deeply invested in reading!

This book was perfect! Just enough of my childhood memories with a modern twist for my daughter .

Awesome book

This book is so good. I recommend it for girls that are seven years old to ten years old probably. It's mostly about Dawn and her babysitting. I am seven years old and l loved it. By: Ellen Joy Munger

My daughter enjoyed the book. She did express a bit of disappointment that Raina Telgemeier was not the author and illustrator for this one like she was for the first four books.

My daughter said this has been her favorite book of the 5 Babysitter's Club graphic novels! She received it as a birthday present and read it in a single day. We went out to lunch and I had to ask her to put the book down and eat - she loved it THAT much! She's ready for the next one!

Book 5 in the series. I am seriously glad to red a cool and funny story. I have to thank my client K Murphy for introducing me to the author who started these books: Raina Telgemeier. She will love these books probably more than I do since they are in comic form. Who can resist a story, any story for that fact, in comic book form? Enjoyable reading.

Baseball's Greatest Games, by Dan Gutman

From School Library Journal

Grade 7-9-As even the author acknowledges, choosing the top nine games in the long history of baseball is quite a challenge, and there are those who would probably argue with his selections. However, such disagreements are what make baseball a beloved sport, and there can be no doubt that this book is a lot of fun to read. Gutman's descriptions of the games don't get bogged down in too many details, and he has an old-fashioned, snappy, sportswriter's style that's just right for this type of presentation. Enough information is given on the events leading up to each game for readers to understand its importance. In fact, it's these background sketches that are perhaps the most interesting aspect of the book. While baseball has changed very little over the years, technology has. Thus, the chapters add up to short social histories of the U.S., as different generations received news of the games in different ways. Of course, many young fans have no particular interest in the sport's glorious past, but for those fascinated by baseball lore, this title is just the ticket.Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Public Library, ILCopyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist

Gr. 5-8. Gutman introduces young fans to nine of the greatest baseball games ever played, starting in 1886 and ending in 1988. Rather than going into batter-by-batter detail, he summarizes most of each game, then zeros in on moments of tension, the quality that Gutman thinks defines a great game. Readers will find Gutman's enthusiasm contagious. His ability to re-create dramatic moments, his flair for telling details and quotations, and his staccato reporting of plays makes the book quite readable. Each chapter ends with a section called "For Baseball Trivia Lovers," featuring the odd fact, the records set and broken, the coincidences, and the stories behind the story of the game. A few black-and-white photographs of players appear at the beginning of each chapter. Baseball-history buffs may want to argue about Gutman's selection of games, but that will probably only add to their enjoyment of this engaging book. Carolyn Phelan

Any time you write a book on the greatest of anything you are asking for trouble. In this case Gutman covers baseball from its early years up to the year of the book's publication 1997 and I dare say there have been games since that could go on the list. But making it even harder on himGutman freely admits to not being qualified to pick such a list but he did extensive research and consulted with several experts. Gutman narrows it down to 9 games. He doesn't even have a top 10! gutman defines a great game as a game with dominant pitching or long home runs or spectacular catches or great strategy or any combination of the above. But for Gutman the one prerequisite is tension. A sense of excitement drama and suspense that is what makes baseball our national pastime. In the preface he mentions that his main regret is that he could not include many others due to page restrictions. He mentions Johnny Vander Meer's second no-hitter, Reggie Jackson 3 home run game on consecutive pitches in the 1977 World Series, Don Larsen's perfect game and Babe Ruth's called shot in the 1932 World Series against the Cubs. This book is very well written and holds your interest. He devotes an entire chapter to each game. They go by "The Shot Heard 'Round the World," the Dodger-Giant final playoff game of 1951, the Fisk Game, Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, "the Haddix Game where Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect inninngs against the Milwaukee Braves but because his Pittsburgh Pirate teammates could score 1 run he lost in the 13 th inning, "the Mazeroski Game" , the game when Bill Mazeroski hit a walkoff homer to defeat the Yankees in the seventh game of the 1960 World Series, "The $15,000 'Slide'", a game from the 19th Century, "the Houston Marathon", a 16 inning game between the Mets and the Astros that desided the 1986 NL pennant, "The Homer in the Gloamin'", a game that ended with a home run in darkness (no lights back in 1938) with the pennant on the line, "The Alexander Game", a confrontation between pitcher and hitter in the tense 7th game of the 1936 World Series, and "the Gibson Game", game 1 of the 1988 World Series where a Dodger comeback was climaxed by a home run by a hobbled Kirk Gibson and hit off Dennis Eckersley a Hall of Fame relief pitcher for Oakland.I can't complain about the stories that were picked but I do quibble about 2 that were left out. I don't see how Don larsen's perfect game is left out. it was a crucial game 5 on the 1956 World Series. Larsen and maglie dueled in a great pitchers battle and Sal Maglie was only lifted for a pinch hitter in Dale Mitchell, who made the final out of the game on a called third strike. The game went rapidly so quick that as a child in elementary school as I rushed home to watch the end of the game just past 3 PM on a school day the game was already over! The final score was 2-0 and both pitchers pitched complete games. There was also the drama of two defensive play that preseved the no-hitter. One was a great catch by Mickey Mantle of a hard hit fly ball into the left center power alley by Gil Hodges. The other was a fluke play where an alert Gil McDougald fielded a ground ball in the shortstop hole that had been deflected off the glove of thirdbaseman Andy Carey. The other game would be the Blue Jays World Championship in 1993 where Joe Carter hit the walkoff homerun to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in game 6 of the World Series. Just like Mazeroski's home run it decided the series. But it was not in a winner take all seventh game. This is a very enjoyable book to read for children and adult baseball fans alike.

The Rose That Grew From Concrete, by Tupac Shakur

From School Library Journal

YA-A collection of poetry written by the rapper between 1989 and 1991, before he became famous. The poems are passionate, sometimes angry, and often compelling. Selections are reproduced from the originals in Shakur's handwriting, personalized by distinctive spelling and the use of ideographs (a drawing of an eye for I, etc.), and complete with scratch outs and corrections. With the exception of "In the Event of My Demise," all of the pieces are accompanied by typed text, which leaves his spelling intact. Some poems are also accompanied by his drawings. A few black-and-white photographs appear throughout. A preface by Shakur's mother, a foreword by Nikki Giovanni, and an introduction by his manager, Leila Steinburg, in whose writing group the poems were written, complete this unique volume.Susan Salpini, Purcellville Library, VA Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

The physical book is pretty small but wide, looks like a coffee table book which is fitting because it's full of shorts poems. I like holding it, it's really easy to flip through and read. Content-wise I like it because I'm a fan, and this is a book for fans. I'm also a fan of poetry in itself from legends to great stand-up including youth, and a lot of this content in similar to what you'll hear on Brave New Voices and Button Poetry, and that's fine with me because I definitely appreciate passion youth and young adult poets that reflect on their personal lives and communities. I can't really understand people who like poetry disliking this, because nothing indicates this is professional or spectacular poetry, it just has a lot of heart and soul to it like Tupac itself. It's like his journal, and I love that. Some poems are definitely better than others and there's plenty to chose from at this very cheap price. If you're a fan, I don't see why even profession/amateur critics wouldn't buy this. It's very interesting to hear how he speaks to himself. These poems came from his personal poetry notebooks, so his writing are his thoughts-- which I totally love.

I heard about Tupac’s poetry book years ago and wanted to find it. I’d forgotten about it until my nephew who didn’t know Tupac the way my generation did, brought up that he was “ deep”. I agreed then told him he wrote poetry. That jogged my memory and I quickly looked on Amazon and found this. I ordered two copies , one for my nephew. Tupac was extremely poetic and to say he was a deep thinker is truly an understatement. I am sad that this brilliant light is gone , but I’m thankful he left us with a piece of the diamond.

As an aspiring poet I must say I never knew how deep this man was. It's like I fell in love with him all over again reading this book. The man is was a true artist, he was an intellect and a passionate soul. He motivates me to keep writing. Rest In Peace!!

I love Tupac, the artist, but I've never read his book, although, I was aware he wrote poetry. As much as I like him, I'm an avid reader and very expressive in my thoughts, good or bad, regardless of how much I like the person. I read the book in one day and find myself going back to re-read a lot of the poems; I love the book! Adding his real, personal writing pages and translating them as well, for individuals who can't read his handwriting, is an awesome touch, especially for his fans and supporters; it gives the book a more personal feel. Regardless, if you listen to his music or not, I suggest reading the book anyway.

As with the total profound, resonate, and necessity of Tupac's artistry and (most importantly) his spirit - led genius, this book was yet another foray into his mind/soul. The balm that it's expression offered/gave/crashed into all the lives & was effected by Tupac 'the gift' is as unforgettable, loved, and ultimately as legendary as the young man himself.Perhaps for those who read and share it alike, it will do so much more for and with another young male who like Tupac is full of promise, talents, gifts, and innate spiritual awareness capable of affecting and propelling people in purpose-driven positions instead of hearding them or allowing the 'permissive' hearding of our young males (particularly Black and Hispanic-) into the acclimation of devaluation, prisons, or graves. How mighty could we all be (been) and feel (or felt), if that be the reality of their lives (or had been Tupac's reality)?Buy and read now!!

I have a lot of love and a lot of respect for Tupac, and out of honesty to this claim, I have to be honest about this book. Very few of these works are fully developed as he wrote most of them when he was eighteen or nineteen, and I think they can only be appreciated, for the most part, by seeing them in this context. The introductory writings by his mother and Nikki Giovanni are very good, but I would warn against approaching this collection as the work of a mature and fully developed artist. I love his political works the most, but I had hoped for poetry more layered than his song lyrics when this was not generally so. The majority of the text seems devoted to love, relationships, etc., and there is some real angst and real struggle in many of his poems, which is not to be unexpected when one considers the very real turbulence of his life. I think it could possibly be a very good book to use with those youth who respect 'Pac, for you do very much get to see the human reality beyond the braggadocious facade, the brokenness from which there arose strength, the complexity of such a revolutionary.

This was a gift for my roommate. He's a huge fan and was genuinely delighted when he open it. I had a chance to leaf through it. I was always familiar with 2 Pac but never really dived into his library of music. But reading some of these you get more insight into the artist. Buy it. It's great on a bookshelf or on a coffee table

This is a beautiful, must have item for any fan. The poems are beautiful and let you feel Tupac. It is neat to see them as copies of the originals in his own hand writing. There are even some doodles on pages, so it really feels personal.I bought this for my daughter, as she is a huge Tupac fan and she absolutely loved, loved, loved it. She is 16 years old, so she was just barely born when he was killed, but since about 3 years ago, she has become so totally interested in him, his life, his music - anything about him and all of the details/conspiracies around his death.I really thought she was going to pee her pants as she unwrapped this book and started flipping through the pages. She was elated with it.I paged through it too, and while I don't mind his music, I am not a *huge* fan, but I did find the poems interesting and saw it as a great window into his thoughts and ideas. It is definitely something that every fan should have. It is good if you just like poetry as well. Tupac is very underestimated. People just think of the rapper, thug type guy. That's not really what he was all about.
