Many publishers have sets of "high-low" books intended for older readers with limited reading skills but these do not follow the principles of the Orton-Gillingham-based reading programs - systematic, highly structured, recursive in its presentation of skills taught, and with progress predicated on mastery of the current level of skills being taught. Now, Pamela Brookes has created DOG ON A LOG Chapter Books that follow an incremental, phonics-based pattern and work well with O-G based programs.These wonderful little books have "chapters," so that students feel that the books are a bit more sophisticated. Another advantage of these books is that they have just enough pictures to increase interest in the stories but not so many as to allow the reader to get the story from the pictures. My child needed an ongoing supply of systematic phonics booksthat use an Orton-Gllingham approach. This proved to be a nearly impossible,expensive task so I decided to write them myself. I want toshare our books with new readers and their families. I also want to make themaffordable. All books are available in both digital and paper editions. Themost cost effective version is a digital collection of five same-step books.The paperback version of the five book collections is a bit more, but is stilla lost less expensive than buying the individual paper books. Due to productioncosts, the individual paperbacks are the most expensive way to buy these books.However, these books give kids a chance to hold a book and say, "I readthis WHOLE book." Since every family will have different needs anddifferent budgets, I am making the books available in multiple formats. All thepaperbacks have black and white pictures to keep prices down. The digital booksall have color pictures.     As ourreading journey progresses I will continue to write books for my daughter andto share them with other families. I was notgoing to include artwork because that is not my talent. However, my daughterwas adamant she wanted her books to include pictures. I may not be able todraw, but I can photoshop images so I take public domain images and adapted toeach story. I am grateful to the artists who have made their images availablefor public domain uses. These sweet images give my daughter a break when thereading is challenging. I hope othernew readers will be entertained by these stories as they practice, and master,each step of their reading journey.  PamelaBrookes

I chose this book because I have grandchildren ages 17yrs on down to 3yr old and 1 in the oven! And proud to be Samoan Nana I can read this book to my grandchildren!😠My grandson loves the colors in the book as s well as pictures😠And for right now, he's the "lai'titi" of the bunch until my granddaughter makes her presence Jan 2019😠Thank you for such a cute book in my Samoan language. XML For Dummies is a good beginning reference for an ideal beginner for XML (eXtensible Markup Language). A starter will definitely appreciate this widely heralded successor to HTML and it will provide a lot of information about this powerful and flexible language that is used to format complex data for the Web. The CD ROM is definitely a great bonus.

I love this book. I know very little about XML, but want to learn the basics about the language. The Dummies book presents the material quite simply, which helps me understand the basics about XML. Tightly written, but somewhat predictable medical thriller. Abbey, a young surgical intern with a brilliant career ahead of her stumbles onto a sinister crime syndicate. This a story told well, but a story that is a little overdone in the anals of medical thrillers. The medical jargon was trying at times. A bit too much med-speak for the uninitiated. This is probably my first and last medical thriller for 2017.
I love all of Tess Gerritsen's books and this was super exciting. A wealthy woman and a teenaged boy need heart transplants. The boy was near death and got the transplant. The wealthy woman's husband is incensed and makes one of the transplant doctors life miserable and frightening. There is something evil and dark going on and it is up to Dr. Abby DiMatteo to find out why transplant team doctors are committing suicide and why she is being followed and having her career threatened. Fast exciting read.
This is the first Tess Gerritsen book I've read and it kept me reading long past my bedtime! Very suspenseful and a little scary to think that a black market for organs for transplant probably does exist. If people have enough money, they can buy anything, even another person's life to selfishly save their own. I would encourage anyone who reads this book to immediately put on their driver's license that they want to be an organ donor. Only by having more legally obtained organs available will black markets be put out of business. I would hope that due to the fictional nature of this book there would not be so many unethical doctors involved in such a scheme but anything is possible for money. Read it, you won't be disappointed.
I LOVED this book! Unlike Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles series, this one taps into her medical background to create a story about transplant surgery and some of the terrible things that can go wrong. Her main character, Abby, is a resident in the transplant unit. What a closed society! As you read along, you begin to see why. Gerritsen has done a great job of keeping the reader on the edge of her seat. I dare you to put it down for long!I believe this was her first book. The writing was excellent. In my opinion, better than some of the R & I's books. Can't wait to read more of her earlier books!

I enjoyed the book. I'm a (very) frequent flyer and found the book to be a good balance between story-telling and technical detail. The author has done an excellent job of keeping a fascinating narrative going despite the ferocious complexity of all the manufacturing change surrounding the Dreamliner.The only downside to be aware of is that this story stops at the first flight (December 2009). Four+ years later, there's a lot of fascinating information that I'd really love to know. Hopefully the author will follow-up with a second volume. I will read it for sure.

I read this book while attending the recent Farnborough air show. It was very informative about the vision behind the original 787, and also discussed the great impact the original Sonic Cruiser concept had on the development of the 787. A great read for anyone interested in commercial aviation.
