This is one of the clearest and most useful advanced statistics books I have read in over 50 years of interest. Recommend for all non-experts (and perhaps even some experts) in this these methods and also recommend you run the examples in programs Stata (especially) or R as you read (using other programs like SAS or SPSS is doable and helped by links recommended in the book).I am 90+% through the book in 10 days and feel like I understand and can begin to apply almost all of the content. Am now ready and eager to tackle more advanced texts like "Multilevel and Longitudinal Modeling Using Stata, Volumes I and II, Third Edition", by Sophia Rabe-Hesketh and Anders Skrondal .Starting as an engineer with only a rough acquaintance with multilevel regression and no practical modeling experience; thanks to the book, I now see many ways to apply multilevel regression either to greatly improve or to justify single-level models I had developed and audited.
I was neck deep in my dissertation with my deadline looming and was facing so many issues with analysis I was seriously on the verge of a mental breakdown. ... and then this amazing book arrived in the mail. To say it was a life saver is not an exaggeration. it's so clearly written but still goes far enough into multilevel modeling that it more that adequately explained many of the high level analytical challenges I was facing. if I ever meet these authors... beers on me! thank you so much, I'm forever grateful!
The book is exactly as the title conveys. It takes you step by step through all the stages of multilevel modeling without overwhelming you with equations. Every Stata command and every component of multilevel equations are described and explained in detail. If you sat in a multilevel course and felt that it was too much for you despite your decent statistics background, buy this book to change your mind. Multilevel modeling isnt too hard, you just need to study it in the way the authors present it in this book. Cant recommend this enough for beginners. The authors are also responsive to emails.
The book does just what it advertises - it uses plain language to explain the basics of multilevel models. The biggest feature of the book is not so much the subject, but the way they explain the basics so that other, maybe more advanced texts and guides, are accessible to non-experts. This isn't the end-all be-all of multilevel modeling, but is a great primer for anyone who is trying to learn.
A must read for doctoral students who, at any time in their research, might encounter data that are "nested" (e.g. students in classrooms, individuals in groups, or employees in companies). The authors' writing is easy to follow and clearly written. The examples in the book provide readers with an easy to follow application of the concepts discussed by the authors. I bought the Kindle version which I found difficult to read and follow. I should have bought the hard copy. Overall, the text is fairly accessible.

This is a pretty good book. It is well written, and the examples are in Stata. For someone who is a user of statistics but without a desire to do a lot of matrix algebra, this book is perfect.

About the Author
Verna Aardema was born in New Era, Michigan, in 1911. A cedar swamp in the back of her house served as her inspiration and retreat as a young aspiring writer. At Michigan State College, Verna took many writing courses, but none that were aimed at writing for children. She didn’t think about the children’s book field until many years later, when she had to make up stories to get her baby daughter to eat. Verna wrote mostly African folktales because of her fascination with that infinitely diverse continent. She published more than 25 books that have been translated into French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, and Afrikaans. Diane Dillon was born in Los Angeles in 1933. She met her future husband, Leo, when they were both studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York in 1953. They married in 1957 and became an iconic artistic duo. The Dillons are the only illustrators to win the Caldecott Medal two years in a row, which they did in 1976 and 1977. They produced more than 100 speculative book and magazine covers together.

These are some of our children's and grandchildren's books we read them to our children and they in turn read them to their children and they even read them to each other. They even act out the plays for fun.
Great illustrations for a children's book.
This was one of my children's favorite books growing up because it is so much fun for me to read with all the sounds and characters. Now they have to have a copy for their children and Mayo continues to read all the wonderful sounds. The pictures are fabulous. The retelling of this traditional story couldn't have more rhythm and flow. After the story and the smiles, it is time to think about how little creatures can cause quite a stir in a community.
The book was in good condition, and served its purpose well. I loved the expedience on how quickly it arrived. My children loved when "daddy" read them this story at bed time, and now my grandchild can share the same experience when grand-dad reads it to her.
Wonderful book for children. The illustrations are colorful. The story is a worthwhile story to read. The story is easy to follow.

Not sure what all of the five-star reviewers saw or felt that I missed. This was a good beach book, one that passes the time pleasantly but leaves no lasting impact. It was interesting enough, given the strange and wretched life the main character has led, but none of her emotions ever seemed real, none of the atrocities that happened to her and that she committed were ever deeply explored, characterized, or layered into an evolving personality. She shifted from good to bad to evil to good without more thought than "I want to be a good person". Very very simplistic, as are all of her so-called relationships. She becomes immortal, well at least she was told she was, and this doesn't send her into some kind of existential crisis or self reflection? Weird.It was oddly hollow and bereft of any normal human emotions. Her best friend? A guy she meets once who gives her a place to live for 7 years. She never once communicates with him the entire time. Yet trusts him and goes off to find him. Her response? Hmm, maybe I should have written him a letter. You think?Ugh. So wooden, so one dimensional. So very sophomoric. Yet people seem to be in love with this book, so I must have missed something big.
This is one of those rare books that captures me from the very first moment. The first scene was all it took, and I was in love. I couldn't book this book down! And I was surprised by how much doubt I had while reading, hoping for the best, suspicious of the worst. The story has takes some unique turns that ultimately set this story up as an epic paranormal romance.*I don't want to give spoilers, but I do want to say if you're a fan of Jessica Jones, there are aspects of this story that will definitely appeal to you, character-wise*Okay, that said. It's REALLY hard to review this story with the details without giving spoilers, so I'll just give a quick overview of what I can, hopefully without giving any spoilers. Early on, we're introduced to what we believe to be the villains of the story, Eve's parents. I have to say this scene is pretty crucial to developing Eve's potential as a human being, because her dark turns later in the story would otherwise make her unlikable; instead, you root for her the whole way.Boaz comes along just in time to stop her parents from going too far in their torture of Eve (really gives child abuse a new meaning). He literally saves her life. After that, however, Eve becomes self-destructive and dark in her choices. Again, I don't want to give too many spoilers, but it really takes a lot for her to break away from because the more she uses magic, the darker she becomes.Along the way, I held out hope for things I should not have hoped for. Rachel McClellan did a fantastic job creating multifaceted heros. People who could be the hero one day, and the villain the next. Ultimately, this is a story about overcoming addictions (so isn't it ironic that I became addicted to reading it!) but it's not the kind of addictions you would think.It was nice to read something so dark and edgy while still seeing some value and meaning to the story. I can't wait for book two! Edit: I have since read book two an am now looking forward to book three!
Eve is the daughter of two evil and powerful magic users. Their hope was that their union would create, in Eve, a super evil magic user. But Eve is determined to deny the call of black magic. They raised her in isolation (she is rarely allowed even to watch television or get online), so it’s utterly unclear where her standards of good and evil have come from. The constant mental and physical abuse and the isolation should leave a heavy imprint on her personality, but – confusingly – they seem to have no impact on her mental, emotional, or moral development. It also doesn’t impact her social skills. When she meets Boaz, a powerful vampire who is a friend of her parents, she is swept off her feet and sees a chance to escape her unhappy life.This book felt really, really long to me. Part of it was that Eve’s character was so patently unrealistic that nothing felt real and I didn’t care what happened to her. She’s an extremely self-centered character, but her internal life is also very uninteresting. Her incessant self-pity isn’t enough to carry a reader into her world. The world of magic the author has created seems like it is pretty complex, but it’s not very well-explained. So we’re denied another entry point into the story.This book wasn’t particularly bad – just disconnected and inconsistent. By the time I had read hundreds of pages and reached the cliffhanger ending, I found I just didn’t care about Eve and her friends. I was ready to move on to something else.
The Devil's Fool #1 - Intriguingly dark. A well written suspense with several interesting characters and an intriguing plot. This is my first book by this author and since I didn't know what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised by the story. I couldn't stop reading until I finished the book; the more into the story, the more mesmerizing. Cliffhanger, there's three more books.The Devil's Angel #2 - Intriguingly darker.A well written, fast paced suspense with more interesting characters with a twisting, intriguing plot. I am confused why such a powerful witch would weaken so much after using her magic. This is still a substantial series, unlike Twilight, more like The Dresden Files. I couldn't put this book down, either, and hated that it's a cliffhanger, two more books.A Hero's Death - Great Book! A well written, intriguing suspense with a well thought out plot and developed characters. This book reminds me a lot of the Dresden Files; no, the author wrote something completely different, but the way DF evolves into a continuous story. No, Ardis is not a witch/warlock, I grew up in time when females were the witches, but he's stronger than any human because of his father's genes. Hard to describe without doing spoilers. This book has substance, intelligence and immerses the reader into a twisting tale, full of vivid descriptions, that can't be put down until it's finished.
