Covers a very basic description of a wide variety of ways to navigate in the wilderness. Could use slightly more detail on the navigation techniques that are difficult, but important concepts to grasp (declination reading for instance). Good info for getting a general sense of direction no matter where you're at, which is helpful navigation info for most emergency situations.
A great, super light weight and durable information packet. I'm a light "doomsday prepper" with mainly a bag and minimal resources to get me started, should I ever need to. This was perfect for my bag and I know if I ever need it, it will be in my bag and I'll be able to reference it with little effort. Very simplistic yet detailed and great for beginners like myself.
After collecting all of whats needed to survive in the wilderness a person would need to carry an extra backpack.
This is full of information that may and will be needed in the back country while navigating. It is easy to read and explains the skills very well. Folds so it takes up a almost no space in your backpack.
Well worth the money. I got a series for my daughter's emergency bag which she carries in her car for trips home from school. The size and durability are added benefits. I personally prefer more pictures and less writing.
I'll be doing more research on the information contained in this pamphlet, but for now it is a rad addition to my G.O.O.D. bag.

In one of those boxes, he discovered the golfing equivalent of King Tut's tomb: more than 100 photographs of Jones demonstrating the game's fundamentals--grip, woods, irons, sand, chipping, putting, and the lost art of the stymie--with explanatory notes attached in Jones' hand. Jones used the photos in a limited series of film strips that he sold in the '30s, but never got around to writing the book. (Interestingly, the enduring instructional he did manage to write--Bobby Jones on Golf--is, solid as it may be, sadly lacking in illustration.) Bobby Jones may be from a different era but his instruction is extremely valid today. Other than a few personal quirks like a narrow stance and a loosening of his grip at the top the principles of his swing are the same in the modern golf swing. Bobby learned his swing during the "hickory" shafts era so timing and tempo was very important. Ben Crenshaw complements Bobby's instruction by explaining Bobby's comments as they translate to the modern swing. An excellent book.
5 stars because it is a first edition. interesting insight....watched all vids available on you tube also.if you like the game and the early pioneers you have to get this...at the current price,a steal.
If your game is off track, this will do much to get you back to the simple fundamentals that will make the game fun again. It boils down to swinging! Not jabbing, hitting, punching, jerking, heaving, lurching, etc., etc. You'll appreciate the need for a relaxed swing of the clubhead for all shots from the wonderful insights of Jones and Crenshaw.

I read this book when I was in aprox. 5th grade. I was young then so I never investigated further but now that I'm older I am reading everything I can about this man and his gift. I bought this book for my son. If you have any interest in self spiritual progress this is a must read! My personal recommendation is read this first to learn about Edgar Cayce first then dive in with both feet. You will be truly blessed by what you will learn.
This is quite possibly one of the most important books ever written. It introduces us to the life and work of Edgar Cayce, one of the best documented psychics (prophets?) ever. Had it not been for works of people such as Cayce, Paul Solomon and a few others, we may be still living in dark ages not really knowing that there is so much more to life than meets the eye (and that modern institutions would have one believe).I also want to add here that I own three copies of this book: the original 1943 edition with publishing date of Dec.1942, printed in 1943 by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.; the 1972 edition printed in 1972 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston and same size and format as the original 1943 book, and the new paperback edition, published in 1997 by the A.R.E. press.Due to a review posted here by a "perceptive lady", I went through pain of comparing the three books (not to mention the cost of acquiring the original first edition) to see if she was telling the truth. Since the new book is so much smaller (dense text of smaller size can save quite a bit of space) I thought that it was quite possible that some contents may have been lost. However, after spending numerous hours comparing the three texts I found absolutely no difference between them. Zero, nothing, zilch, nada, null, bupkis.The new edition, has pictures of Edgar Cayce and A.R.E from the times when it was first founded, which I find a very nice addition. So if anything, the new edition is better than the old one. However, I am old fashioned and I like the big print and hard cover of the old editions. But other than that, absolutely nothing is lost with this new edition.It is just too bad that those who do a really good job are attacked for no good reason. One should make sure that what they claim is true, is really true. And others should also check for themselves before they trust a passionate but untrue review such as the one by the "perceptive lady".
I recently discovered EC, after hearing a couple of friends talking about him. What I heard tickled my interest enough to search him out and buy some of his books. What I've read so far feels intuitively right to me. I can feel that EC is NOT a fake or a charlatan as so many out there... I came to trust him and to heed what he has to say. Read a book or two about him and make up your own mind. Reading EC has stretched the limits of my own envelop. I'm glad I came across Edgar Cayce!
As a lifelong Christian, this book helped clarify and connect my faith with the metaphysical teachings that I've been learning & researching. To read of the struggles this man had trying to understand and use his God given gift of healing while reconciling it with his deeply held Christian beliefs gave me lots of encouragement. The prose was a little old fashion but not hard to read or understand. I highly recommend it for anyone who is being led into the mysterious but still has a faith in the traditional religions.
Very, very interesting. Actually, I feel closer to God after reading this book. That is a good thing.I think he is right. I do believe God was speaking thru him. Cayce kept saying he did not want his gift to cause harm. He said if the gift caused harm it was not from God. if it brought good, it was from God. He gift never hurt anyone....so it had to be from God. Cayce gave all credit to God, not himself. Wish there was someone like him today. Maybe there is - have you heard of John of God in Brazil? He was featured on Oprah's magazine several years ago, Dr. OZ spoke about him as did Dr. Wayne Dryer.
I originally purchased an early version of Edgar Cayce's, "There Is a River" book. I thought this cover/book was the version that i originally purchased; however this book DID NOT HAVE an ~epilogue chapter on the "Son's of Belial". That is the reason I purchased this book; hence I was disappointed. It seems to me that this book edited out the originally "Sons of Belial" chapter of the end of Cayce's original book. Note there were 3 or 4 covers on this book, I guess each one was a reprint of the earlier version. However they did not contain all of the info of the original one. mike
It's been several years since I have studied Cayce or any of his work, but I loved this book! It's clear that the author knew Mr. Cayce and he took great detail in telling the Cayce story. If you find Edgar Cayce and the subject of Clairvoyance as intriguing as I do, then you will enjoy this book. I have visited his museum in Virginia Beach and will never forget the positive energy that I felt while I was there. Most likely, this story will leave you with more questions that may lead you down your own path of discovery. Enjoy!

This happened to be assigned reading alongside the autobiography of the 14th Dalai Lama for a course I took on Tibetan Buddhism. While it is simplistic, I think this manga serves as a great introductory piece to the conflict that occurred between the Chinese and the Tibetan people in the 1950s. If you are interested in this particular bit of history, I wouldn't stop at just reading this manga. However, it is a very interesting, easy read. It's a nice addition to my collection of manga, as well.I will also note, there are at least two versions of this in print, one with a glossy cover and thin comic paper pages (presumably a reprint), and another with a thick paper cover and solid pages. So the product you order may vary in quality!
This is a great simple and quick way to learn the story of the 14th Dalai Lama's life, and it's fun and beautiful too. Highly recommended.

The life of a Dalai Lama is obviously not an easy one: promoting peace and spirituality in the midst of insurmountable conflict, being thrust into a position of enormous power at a very young age, and living with the inescapable weight of an entire fading country on your shoulders. As a reader who is an outsider to the world of foreign politics, understanding the position of the Dalai Lama in Tibet's political and spiritual existence definitely isn't easy, but it's spelled out here in enough simplified detail to tell a solid story while providing a gateway into a much larger, bloodier scene.Initially, it's easy to dismiss The 14th Dalai Lama as a work of manga for the sake of being manga: It's a popular format that sells very well and, subsequently, is relatively easy to capitalize on. Even as a reader who doesn't often enjoy or comprehend the appeal of manga, I found that Tetsu Saiwai's art and storytelling stand up by themselves as pure, excellent narrative. The artwork doesn't feature the bizarre exaggerations of many fantastical manga stories, or the emotional, hazy dreamscapes that haunt the genre. This particular volume isn't even read back-to-front. In many ways, this resembles American comic traditions much more strongly than Asian ones, making it accessible to multiple audiences. Manga is thematically appropriate when visually discussing matters of history that have taken place in Asia, after all.Narratively, the biography is told with the Dalai Lama as protagonist, so the Chinese are consistently portrayed as deceptive, violent, and perpetually angry, making them a cartoonishly nefarious group of characters without actually stepping into racist territory. This biography focuses on many critical events with succinct vignettes, but makes a giant leap through time from 1959 to 2009. Fifty years of the Dalai Lama's life, which are presumably not as interesting as his first years as leader, are omitted for the sake of space. Of course, the struggle of Tibet is not a story that has ended yet, and the life and work of the Dalai Lama continues, but the lack of 50 years of landmarks implies that he spent half of a century without taking any major initiatives, which is obviously false. Very basic research about Tibetan politics prior to China's invasion also reveal a much more complex picture of a Tibet that endured practices of slavery and forced mutilation, but the most important aspect of this book is the idea that it provokes a very real interest in a much deeper picture of a fascinating, important subject. Ultimately, it is intelligent and effective.Because these politics are violent, the death of women and children is prominent, but never graphic. The subject matter skews toward an older audience despite the nature of the art, so don't be misled by the appearance of The 14th Dalai Lama--keep it in the teen collection, but definitely keep it.-- Collin David
Inspired by non-violence and inked as a story of Tenzin Gyatso's struggle as he matures within a homeland under Communist invasion, this simple depiction illustrates the tensions. Idyllic panoramas heighten the contrast with the massacres of innocents, for this Tibet's filled with resistance to Chinese genocide, and Mao's reprisals after he fails to manipulate the Dalai Lama and the second leader, the Panchen Lama, into being puppets for a utopian ideology that masks cultural and political and religious extermination. The style is in the "manga" manner of large faces, not a lot of subtle detail, and direct linear expression of emotions and action.This could be used to teach younger readers; I gave it to my teenaged son, given a curiosity about Buddhism (he's never read about it) and a love of graphic novels. There's a lot of attention to the diplomatic dissension during the 1950s, and this provides the main plot. Those expecting a broader look at the Dalai Lama's life in exile will not find as much here, but for an introduction to what Tibet faced after Mao's triumph spread his ambitions towards Tibet, this is a swift, and effective primer that sets out the challenges of what happens when arms are taken up and world attention sought, but when both fail against a massive occupation.Saiwai credits Martin Scorsese's "Kundun" among his sources, and the cinematic nature of this book shows in juxtapositions of the backs of the heads of praying monks with the face of a benevolent giant, triple-faced Buddha, or the last glimpse of the Potola palace by the fleeing Dalai Lama as he disguised hastens into exile from a Lhasa bombarded by an army that claims to be the people's liberators.I found this an effective reminder of the difficult message of the Dalai Lama that violence no matter how "moral" as intended sparks further reprisals, and often deadlier repression. All options are explained, the violent as well as the pacifist, and the complexity of options and the futility of rebellion darken the tone. Later, he travels the world preaching his appeal to find harmony with one's foes, and this entreaty widens as Sensai portays the need for progress in a China shown in need, post-Tienanmen Square, of the same hopes for its people as those that Tibetans try to achieve.The main story begins as the Dalai Lama in 2009 tells of his coming of age. A coda recaps his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in 1989, with his hope for Tibet's survival, appending an update on the arrival of the rail line to Lhasa that allows further weakening of Tibetan traditions as the Communist regime seeks a "sinicization" of the vast plateau, as migrants already outnumber the six million Tibetans there.Saiwai shows the Dalai Lama talking to crowds, finding room for orphans who have fled the same homeland as he had, and attempting to convince a world where few leaders hear what many ordinary folks in his audiences may come to accept: the restoration of Tibet as a natural park, the arrival of peace to its people, and the autonomy of their homeland. Meanwhile, the Chinese import their people, strip its resources, and crush its resistance. Whether this tale has a happy ending remains ambiguous. Impermanence remains.

I LOVED this book! I took it for a Medical Ethics course and really loved it! It is a quick, easy read that clearly articulates many of the basic dilemmas we face in both psychology, social work, and the medical field. It is laid out to help you critically think about ethics, and how challenging medical ethics can be. I am not ashamed to admit that it opened my mind and has helped me to better discuss problems surrounding ethics, even within the lay community.
It is all researchers need to learn about ethics in research

I’ve met a lot of ‘schmucks’ in the course of a long and varied career and I recognize most of them in this delightfully descriptive and entertaining book. You will recognize them as well. You will laugh as you identify the types of disrupters that can make your life a misery – and be challenged to be the impetus to change the dynamic.Vivid characterization, descriptive labels and readily recognizable traits make this book an easy read, simultaneously enjoyable and entertaining, yet of substantial value. As a lay person, I absolutely loved the insight into the world as seen through the eyes of a clearly talented and insightful psychiatrist. Sophisticated, elegant writing, erudite reasoning and sound logic lead the reader to beautifully commonsense, practical suggestions. What a fun read!This book goes beyond labels – giving workable suggestions for problem and conflict resolution. It’s one thing to recognize a problem; quite another to provide useful tools for resolution. This book does both – and does it extremely well.Background, logic, explanation provide empathy for the disrupter. Empathy, in turn, engenders incentive to problem solve. Clearly, this author is a problem-solver and enables you to do the same. Written in an earthy, commonsense, witty and wise style, this book is a treasure trove of valuable insight. Read this book – you will not regret it. Highly recommended!!!
The author, Jody J. Foster, MD MBA, addresses the different types of Schmucks, or disruptive and difficult co-workers, and the manner in which to deal with each type. There are many kinds of difficult people and each kind requires a different approach to handle them. The author addresses each personality type and offers solutions to deal with each one.This book, with a humorous title, is essential reading for anyone in the workforce or anyone having a relationship issue. Written in a sophisticated, yet practical manner was a great read. This book is a must-read for anyone who has ever dealt with an impossible person (or people) at the office . . . which is basically everyone ever! The writing is clear, engaging, often funny and presents fascinating case studies that sadly resonate too well! By using her own experiences to bring the reader in, Foster deftly identifies different archetypes and unpacks what might be driving behavior among your co-workers that you are too infuriated or frustrated to understand and might dismiss as an undifferentiated JERK. In truth, there are many different kinds of difficult people and each requires a specific kind of approach to diffuse/deal with - this book provides those solutions with empathy for your suffering and their suffering along with practical, actionable advice. This should be essential reading for all offices, managers and underlings - and the advice can even be applied beyond the office to pretty much any human relationship. I loved this book!!!
Despite the title, this is a very compassionate book. Dr. Foster gives great, very readable background and insight on a range of disruptive personalities and how they affect the workplace. She then does a wonderful job advising the reader on how to manage these challenges with empathy and understanding. A great read!
Dr. Foster's books is a highly useful tool for all business people, regardless of your level of psychological training. If you lead others and want to be more effective in learning how to deal with difficult direct reports, or if you simply have co-workers that you feel are "schmucks" and want to know how to deal with them, this is your book. And part of the genius of the book is that in reading it you will start to see aspects of your own personality reflected in the different chapters. I know I saw parts of myself in at least three chapters! And as you will learn, if you don't see any elements of yourself in any of the descriptions, you might have even bigger problems! I've had the chance to see Dr. Foster present her material live at the Wharton School and she not only knows her stuff, but she's a highly enjoyable (and funny) speaker as well. Highly recommended.
Clear and concise description of the tapestry of human frailty alive and well in the workplace! Really well-written. Foster describes the troublemakers, what makes them tick and gives practical suggestions about what to do about them. And she certainly seems to have seem a lot of them. I'm sure I'll be a better manager and leader if I follow her advice.
Good Book. Easy to read and understand. The book will help you open up to the different kinds of people out there and how to deal / work with the Schmuck in the office.
