This book features a unique, well thought out universe of flying continents, lost technology, and sorcerer bloodlines. The backstory hints at a lost high tech civilization and has a very Renaissance/Three Musketeers feel. The protagonist was born to an aristocratic family. Unfortunately she had three huge things going against her...she had a deformed arm. she had no magic powers, and she is a women. She creates a secret identity (really a "Nom de Plume") as a male mathematician. Then for reasons that are initially unclear her father and a priest set up an arranged marriage with a foreign prince. This marriage offers her an escape from her abusive father, vast wealth, and power...but plunges her into a deadly world of court intrigue. The first half of the book was very good, but in the end the intrigue got too convoluted for my taste.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a unique world and the story held many unique twists. That being said, I read. The publishers weeekly review that trashed the book because the female characters were week. Don't believe it. its true that the society in which the story takes place does not place women on an as equal footing as men. But the female protagonist is endearing and rises above her station through her unique mind. The male protagonist is also intelligent. So there's plenty of action combined with plenty of action. To those politically correct reviewers: does every book have to have female leads who can do everything? Lighten up it's fantasy. It's fun take your PC attitude elsewhere.
I really enjoyed the book. The world building was amazing: very imaginative and unique. The choice of “time and place†set is brilliant. So much of the Fantasy set either in medieval, Regency or Victorian “Englandâ€, that the choice of 17th century France/Spain feels like a fresh breath of air. Also, I highly appreciate the use of fictional world that only implies similarity with our world. I always feel reservation when I read books set on alternative Earth (and I don’ mean Earth with paranormal), they rarely feel authentic or believable. In my view – you want to change rules – create your own world. This way the story will be so much more exciting and vivid. So, definitely – well done, Curtis Craddock. I loved the magic system as well and very intrigued to see more bloodlines and what they can do. Moreover, the overall mythology has lots of potential and undeniably will keep me reading. The Fantasy and Steampunk mashup felt very natural and only added to the overall enjoyment from the book.I loved the main characters; both Jean-Claude and Isabelle are far from being flat and definitely very well written. Especially Isabelle. It is so rare to meet capable, resourceful and smart female lead whose abilities are shown to the reader and not just told about. My only complaint is her age dissonance. She supposed to be 24, but reads as 17. At the beginning, I wasn’t overly fond of YA touch it added to the story. Thankfully, at some point thing got more adult, which means more serious and less superficial. I addition I loved that her and Jean-Claude private jokes are far from being innocent.I enjoyed the way the book deals with misogyny, prejudice, bigotry and religious extremism. Thought I was somewhat disappointed that Isabelle’s deformed hand was magically “fixed†and the crippled love interest was a fake one, instead she got almost perfect prince. At least she was the one to save her “damsel†in distress and not the other way.Also at the beginning, I had issues with politics. I don’t like books with much political intrigue, and An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors had plenty of that… However, the second part had enough action to satisfy my interest and I ended loving the book very much. Can’t wait to read the next one in series.
I really loved this book. It was so unique and interesting and I loved all the characters! It's steampunk, murder mystery, sci-fi all in one. The setting is like historical France and Spain but with flying ships, floating islands, and magic. The heroine is a science loving, deformed princess with a musketeer who loves and adores her like a daughter. Their relationship was a highlight! I highly recommend if you love fantasy but want something more unique!
Really good read.part steampunk, part magic fantasy, with enough courtly infighting and clash of empires to keep anyone happy.Wonderful heroine who has had nothing but tragedy since the day she was born,and with the help of her faithful Musketeer Jean Claude manages to be all she can be, and more. I loved the humor that was woven through the book, even in the worst of times.One of the few stories I have read lately that I will be looking for the sequel, as soon as it is out.
I was amazed when I reached the end and found out that this was the author's first book. It was a much more complete and engaging story that most of the Kindle content I read these days. I strongly recommend this book and look forward to his future efforts.
Wonderful book. This is a new author for me and I'm really impressed by his ability to create a whole fantasy world that somehow makes sense. Looking forward to the next one.
I really loved so many aspects of this book! The heroine was a strong and courageous woman with a great sense of humor. She was not a supermodel but a real woman, a person of intelligence and she was irresistible to cheer on and care for. This book had mysteries to solve, intrigue and plot twists I am eager to read this authors next books in the Risen Kingdom series!

Just received the Robert Jones Masterclass and so far the book is good. This book has something for everybody who is into makeup. Robert Jones gives you in depth information about different types of foundation, eye liner, blushes, eye shadow, and etc to in depth information on Skin care, skin types, Foundation color match to your skin color, figuring out skin undertone to applying makeup on imperfections on the face like Dark circles, blemishes and etc. When it comes to the brushes section, I felt it was good in showing the pictures of the brushes and their use but I didn't like the fact that the brushes were identified by number instead of name, especially when nobody uses numbers to identify a makeup brush. So to me that is confusing, especially for a beginner like me. What sets this book apart or makes it stand out from others, is it will satisfy Lovers of Contouring(Chapter 4) of different skin tones with it's in depth steps to get a perfect contour and it has a excellent eye section(chapter 5 & 6). Robert Jones covered everything you can possibly think of when it comes to eyes. Through step by step facial instructions of eyebrows, eye lash application, eye makeup application based on eye shape, eye makeup looks, and etc. I will definitely recommend this book to anybody especially a beginner.
Excellent book, full of techniques for all face shapes and skin tones! A game changer! Or at least, makeup-changing. I learned so much from this book! Lots of pictures and excellent instructions make this book easy to understand, and makeup more fun to play with. My favorite feature, my green eyes, is properly accentuated now. Everyone notices them (as opposed to noticing my eyrshadow), and I am complimented often. This book is FULL of great techniques. Buy it!
This is a very basic makeup instruction book. There is nothing to learn if you’ve already been doing makeup for awhile but it could be a great tool for a teenager or a someone just getting started. If you’re anything more than a beginner, you’ll just be turned off and use it as a doorstop. A couple of things irked me in this:1. The book is aimed to sell his own collection of brushes. Huge turnoff.2. Basic editing of the pages was overlooked. Spacing on the brush pages confused me as to what brush I was supposed to be looking at. Because his brushes are “numberedâ€, they didn’t exactly match up to their description. I included two of the pages to show you how confusing the layout is.3. Descriptions and definitions are very basic which could be great for beginners but not someone like me who has been using makeup for 10+years.And this was the biggest disappointment of all. I have hooded eyes (born with) and they are my most challenging feature. There are 4 pages dedicated to this instruction and he lists 7-10 brushes that should be used. Brushes # 22 (listed twice), 11, 30 (listed twice), 16 (listed twice), 41, 38, and 14. It’s completely unclear if I’m supposed to use the same brush number twice within the whole process. Then, when i go to his website (per the book instructions), THERE IS NO #16 Brush. When i add all the brushes i can find to the cart that i would need, it’s $128+ and i didn’t even add in the duplicates! It’s so frustrating when little details are overlooked. And maybe the #16 is sold out but it’s not even listed on the website. At least reference somewhere that the brush you referenced in your book is actually real.At this point in my makeup phase, I’m not looking to experiment and learn basic definitions. I already know what a matte finish is, how to curl my eyelashes and how to contour my face. I am looking to perfect my techniques and this book just lacks the DETAILS.
This book was exactly what we wanted. It had great tips on how to apply makeup. Even better, the tips weren’t generic. They carried advice for face shapes, skin tones, and goals. I wish I had read this book as a teen, and I’m so glad my teen has the opportunity to read it before she struggles through decades of poor makeup application like I did!

If you have to use this textbook, I'd recommend getting the Klein Organic Chemistry textbook too. I often would use the Klein textbook to help me solve problems in McMurry because I think the information is organized a bit better in Klein. I really hate that McMurry doesn't use line drawings for long carbon chains, but that's my personal preference.
Important information for the access card: if your professor is using Cengage through Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, Desire 2 Learn, or your school's learning management system, then this access card will work. BUT, if your professor is using Cengage through the Cengage website, this access card will not work. I unfortunately bought this access card and book package thinking that it would work and it didn't in my case, so ask your professor before to avoid this.
I have been a university professor for over 30 years. I bought the first edition of McMurry's Organic Chemistry and loved it. It has become thicker and it has many more pages than that first edition, but of course it covers many more topics. This book has been my personal favorite over the years. Other OC textbooks that I like are Fox and Whitesell's and Bruice's. The one I don't particularly care for is Vollhardt's: too much stuff crammed in the book and a writing style that doesn't make it very easy for students to follow. It's fine as a reference, but in my opinion it's not that great for those who have to study directly from the book. But of course you may disagree with me! At any rate, I think that McMurry's OC is a fantastic book. Period.
This is such a wonderful and very helpful tool for doing well in organic chemistry as it helped me a lot when I took two semesters of organic chemistry, as well as did the solutions manual for the textbook and do purchase the textbook and solutions manual together as both are a must in order to be successful in organic I and II! There were a few instances within certain chapters of the text that could have been just a bit more specific while providing just a little bit more detail, is my only other feedback and/or comment that I would like to add on and point out. Pretty good book. Do the practice problems!! Some things aren't explained as much as I'd like around chapters 6-8, so you can't really do some of those practice problems because you don't know what they're talking about.
Great way to purchase books for college at a rental cost.

This book covers the basics of meal prepping for those who don't know much about the concept and provides a solid 28-day meal plan, and a very consistent collection of breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes with clear instructions and fairly accessible ingredients.
As one wanting to learn more about meal prepping and how to do it efficiently and with ease this book was a god send. I learned so much and really made meal prepping so much easier for me. Cut my time in half and my frustration. I highly recommend this is you are a beginner meal prepper or even if you just are looking for ways to improve doing it and learning new things. Great gift idea as well for the busy person, health person, just getting into fitness person, want to start saving time person... I could go on!
I found some good recipes but not all instructions clearly explain what to do with the meals once they are prepped and stored. Would like instructions on whether the items are best reheated or “eaten coldâ€. Also the index pages referenced don’t correlate to the correct item page numbers. A little confusing but easy to correct. The only photos included are what you see on the cover. Would have also liked a shopping list per week. The book could be improved in future editions.
This is a great meal prep book, I have been using this book to meal prep for the last month and It is very easy to follow the recipes. These recipes are easy to make and my husband and my kids like it very much.

Not impressed was hoping for more traditional menu options.
Kind of weak. No shopping lists, no guidance on bulk cooking in recipes, no graphics, and no pictures at all.
Recipes were well thought out. Very calorie aware of ingredients used to make healthy meals. Very legible and easy to read and follow.The bad: the first 6 chapters (roughly 34 pages) were not very detailed, and I felt like I didn't ready anything I didn't already know. (Also be aware, i meal prep quite frequently and I don't always do standard chicken rice and broccoli meal prep) The information explained how freezer meals last longer (duh), how meal prepping is healthy and saves money. But again, the wheel was not reinvented and the average joe could have developed the same idea.All in all, for a book under 10$ it was not a bad buy. Your paying for the recipes. Also keep in mind, the 4 week "meal plan" is simply each of the recipes referenced for a meal in one of the days in the 4 weeks.

This little guy seems perfect to me - it was a little hard to tell what you were getting from the description, but this has a paperback cover with a soft-touch feel or coating that makes it feel quality. The wine color is really understated, not too red, almost a dark brown. Pages are edged in light yellow/gold.Print on the inside yes is smaller to fit the smaller size of the overall book, but print doesn't seem too light at all - just right. Pages are that almost "onion skin" feel to them, so you can see a bit of the page behind show thru, which I think would be true for anything printed in this type of paper. Size of the book was a tad smaller than I expected at 6 3/4" tall and 4 1/2" wide (and I was happy about that). Not pocket sized but not fullsize either. I'll try to upload a picture with my hand.
This was given to my Goddaughter for her confirmation. It fits in her purse and although the font is a little small, she has no difficulty seeing it. The cover is soft and feels durable. The 'Bible' paper is beautiful and keeps it from being too heavy.
Bought this when I was looking into becoming Episcopalian. Very nice quality.
While the the cover material and page size are nice, the font size really is unnecessarily too small

The exercises in this book made a noticeable difference for me within 2 weeks. I am moderately active, but didn't have a regular routine of strengthening exercises. I noticed increasing stiffness after sitting or driving and decided I needed to find something I could/would do for the rest of my life (I'm 57). These simple, efficient exercises take very little time and the admonition to only do them 3 times a week made it a big plus for me. I changed the push-ups from the floor to the wall, stepping back about 3 ft.Maybe in the future I will add to this routine, but for now these are making everyday life easier. Thank you Mr. Saint Clair.

Book is simple,easily understood, and has some sound yet effective exercises for me as, yes, a senior. 83 and still enjoy exercising. Thanks for writing this book!
I guess the subject matter is ok but the spelling and punctuation is so bad I'm not sure. In at least one place a word is used that makes absolutely no sense in context. If a proof reader was used, he/she should be ashamed. I wish I could have previewed the book before purchasing it.
I had hoped this would be the book that would be gentle enough for me to use to get back in shape, gain some much needed energy (I care for my dad 24/7 - and for over 6 months his time to rise in the morning was between 2-4 am), and give my endeavors to loose weight a boost.BUT...none of these exercises I was able to do, due to having a chronic back condition. For example - I have not been able to lay flat since 1975 (when I acquired this condition via a careless motorist failing to stop at a stop sign)....I get extremely light headed to lay flat. Well this eliminated these exercises. Most straight back chair aggreviate my lower lumbar problem and that sciatic nerve, so I kept turning the pages to find an exercise that would be okay for me to do, without adding to my back problems. AHHHH...walking that is it, but I had all ready returned to walking...still it was good to get an encouraging word from the author of this book that I was treking on the right track. :) I know many seniors do not have a back problem as problematic as mine....so jump for this book it is well writen, clearly illustrated and very encouraging. Oh go check it out with your doctor, if in doubt. Mine thought it might be okay - in fact beneficial - until he saw what the exercises acturally were.
