She brings Z to life with the most delightful illustrations. So, Z decides to venture out into the world and find Beatrice in hopes she can explain the strange word. As the journey goes on, Z crosses paths with various people, none are Beatrice but each tries to explain what love means. However, their answers don't compute. It appears that Z will never learn the true meaning behind the strange word 'love', but then, something surprising happens.The first pages had me wondering how this read would really be. The robots, especially Z, are kind and likable, but their metal and simple exterior comes across a bit cool. And this is perfect! As the story continues, Z's wondrous journey warms more and more with every person he meets. By the end, the at first cold exteriors, leave a super warm and cuddly feeling. In other words, it builds right with the story and ends in the way it should. Kudos just for that.The meaning of this book is clear, and it is a message kids can never ever get enough of. It makes them consider what they might tell Z if the cute robot stopped and asked them to define love. The various answer make it clear how wonderful and the various ways in which love in shown. Throw in a cute little adventure as Z sails down the small stream to places the robot's never been before...and the slight tension which builds by the end when it doesn't appear the goal will be found...and it's an exciting read, which holds the attention until the last page. In other words, this book has everything a good story needs.The illustrations are gentle, warm, encouraging, bright and allow the good feelings to flow. Each adventure gains more depth through the illustrations, and they carry just the right amount of details to invite readers to flip through them on their own. Especially Z...for all of it's simpleness... is as adorable as can be.I highly recommend this book and believe hugs and cuddles will be expected at the end. I received a complimentary copy and found this to be such a lovely read that I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.
My grandson & I absolutely LOVED "Not Quite Narwhal" & "Harriet Gets Carried Away", so I was excited to see there was a new book by Jessie Sima. "Love, Z" is about a 'young' robot who goes on a quest to find the meaning of a word he thinks he doesn't understand....but, did he know it all along? Ms. Sima's wildly adorable illustrations are peppered with details & nuances to be found with each re-reading.....and re-read it, you will. We love it! Looking forward to future work by Jessie Sima!

This book is exactly what it claims to be: a collection of Dylan's lyrics, and about the best one there is.There aren't annotations, or essays, or anything like that. It is just very simply a collection of the lyrics to use as a reference, or to page through and read for pleasure. The lyrics are presented very nicely, in a large font, with each song getting its own page or pages if it's length requires more than one. The songs are presented in the order they appeared in on the album they were released in, with b-sides and other releases collected at the end of the section for the album that came out closest to when they were written. Each album has a title page with art from the album presented in black and white, and a page showing Dylan's hand written or typed draft of a song from the album. In terms of layout and content, it is almost just like the 2002 lyrics collection, only with the much needed update of 10 years of additional material. If you liked that book, you know basically what you're getting here.It is not 100% complete with everything he has written... I noticed that Marchin' to the City, a favorite track of mine that I think has only been released on Tell Tale Signs, was not included. The book does include many of the songs that he's written that weren't on his albums, though, and while there might be a couple obscurities missing, you will find a ton of great stuff anyway. As far as the claim that this collection features lyrics that have been newly edited by Dylan, I didn't find any yet, but I haven't read every lyric in the book or compared them all to earlier versions. I'm a big Dylan fan, but not a Dylanologist that spends his life studying every detail, so I look forward to the articles by those people which I'm sure are forthcoming that will examine the lyrics that have been changed.As far as supplemental material, multiple versions of the songs, color art, and extras like that, the large Dylan lyrics book from a couple years ago had more of those things. However, it was a gigantic, massive book, and it also cost a couple hundred dollars more than this one, depending on when you bought it. Personally, although that collection is beautiful, the size is an impediment for me. If you want a collection you can actually read, that one is awfully heavy and inconvenient. This is the one I would get.But in the meantime, if you want a book collecting the work of our greatest living songwriter, here it is, beautifully presented in a high quality volume. Doesn't get much better than that.
I love this book. The actual music is great but sometimes it's hard to hear the lyrics. I was surprised at how many songs Bob Dylan has written. It's interested to me to just open it to a page and read the lyrics for a song. Also I bought it as a collectible as he won the Noble Prize this year.
Even though I spent some time in the United States during my childhood, for a Japanese person like myself it is difficult to truly appreciate Bod Dylan's Nobel Prize-winning lyrics by just listening to his records or CDs. (unless you do so hundreds of times like I did with Times They Are A Changin' )Having this book in front of you and turning the pages one by one as the song goes on is a real pleasure and makes you fully understand why he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
As an English teacher, I plan a unit on the Nobel Prize for literature. We read a lot of poetry because that is what English literature is for many centuries. I ask how many like poetry and most say "not me" -- unitl I remind them that they DO like today's poetry, song lyrics. How excited I am to add a living poet to the lesson. This book is clear, easy to read, and complete.

Listening to Bob is difficult and for me inaccurate. I thought the opening line in "Jockerman" was standing on the cornier, catching your breath, instead of "Standing on the waters, casting your bread". The poetry once you get the words right, leave on doubt that he deserves the Nobel prize.

Even my mechanic asks me to stow this in the trunk when I take the car to be serviced. I drive a 1991 Mazda Protege, and cars are so different now. My Mazda has it's belts to the left of the engine (all of them) and the alternator hidden in a weird place. This helped the mechanic who had to replace them.
Good reference.
The manual doesn't even mention the problematic knock sensor on the 2.5 V6 model I'm working on. Bought it for the torque values for the stuff I have to pull off. Because it covers two or three completely different cars, don't expect it to tell you all you need to know. No reflection on the seller, who did me square business. Would buy from them again.

You will learn topics that are easy to understand such as conjugating verbs in the present tense and the preterit and imperfect tenses (past tenses). And you will also learn some of the most complicated topics of Spanish grammar such as reflexive verbs and the Spanish subjunctive mood. You’ll also learn almost every other Spanish grammar topic imaginable. For example:- Irregular verbs- Stem changing verbs- Ser and estar- Determining when to use the preterit tense vs. the imperfect tense- The future and the conditional- The progressive tenses- The present perfect and the past perfect- The future perfect and the conditional perfect- The passive voice and passive constructions- Not just the present subjunctive but also the imperfect and the pluperfect subjunctive- Commands- Nouns and articles- Adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and prepositions- And a lot moreOne features that I found helpful about this book is that the author includes verb charts that you can quickly use as a reference. She then gives several examples, including:Compramos la casa? – Do we buy the house?Abro la puerta? – Shall I open the door?Two, at the end of every chapter there is a “vocabulary section†– This is where the author defines all the news words that were taught in that chapter. I found this to be a huge time saver. Since all of the new Spanish words were defined in the “vocabulary section†at the end of each chapter, I didn’t have to look up all the news words in a Spanish dictionary.In closing, I’ll leave you with the 3 learning-Spanish resources which are currently my favorites. (My list of favorites changes from time to time so you may want to check my list periodically. Updated 08-2018):1.Learn Beginner Spanish: Lessons 1 to 5 from Both Original Version & New Version of Learning Spanish Like Crazy, Including Two Bonus Lessons from New Millennium Spanish. What stands out most about this program is the style of teaching used. The teaching style is very reciprocal or mutually dependent on the instructor and the student. This allows the student to not only listen but also to participate. But what appeals to me the most is that there are two bonus audio lessons included from their New Millennium Beginner Spanish program which teaches Spanish vocabulary for social media, the Web, modern technology, life styles for this millennium. Such as, eating organic food, living abroad and working as a digital nomad, and working out at a cross-fit or MMA gym. Learn Beginner Spanish also works wonders for developing an authentic sounding accent.2. 501 Spanish Verbs, 8th edition (501 Verb Series). If you think you can accomplish fluency in Spanish as an adult without mastering conjugating Spanish verbs, you are only fooling yourself. This book is an absolute essential resource for learning how to conjugate Spanish verbs. It will show you how to conjugate every Spanish verb tense imaginable. The version I have also includes a bonus CD which teaches both regular verbs and irregular verbs.3. Learn Basic Spanish with Fast Lane Spanish: Get in the Learning Spanish Fast Lane This is from the same publisher that created Learn Beginner Spanish. What I love about this audio program besides the fact that they use the same teaching style found in Learn Beginner Spanish which includes native Spanish-speaking actors to help you get an authentic accent, this program does a great job of teaching Spanish pronouns and prepositions in a natural way. Most programs seem to skip over this topic and only focus on conjugating Spanish verbs. I am also impressed with Learn Basic Spanish's bonus package which allows you to attend a free, live, interactive monthly Webinar taught by a Spanish teacher from Colombia. I ordered this book, along with the Practice Makes Perfect Spanish Verb Tenses workbook. While I really like the Verb Tenses workbook, this one is not as well written. So far, in the first few exercises, they provide a general vocabulary list, and a verb list. Then they give you exercises in translation and reading comprehension. Unlike the verb tenses book, in the Complete Spanish Grammar, the exercises ask you to translate verbs and vocabulary they don't even bother putting in the list. And most of the words on the list they don't use in the exercises. It's really weird and annoying. The format is good, but they should really use better word lists to correspond with the exercises. I'm glad I bought the other book so that I have a comparison. Hopefully this won't be an issue throughout the entire book.
I purchased 3 PMP books in one order - Spanish Grammar, Verb Tenses and Basic Spanish because they offered “Supporting audio recordings, flashcards, and auto-fill glossary available online and via app.†Before you purchase, go to the link they offer to get the “Bonus App’ - Language Lab at MHProfessional.com and read the reviews. You will be hard-pressed to find anything positive. The promised learning aids are simply not provided in any usable form. “Professional†- NOT.
As mentioned in the introduction (nowhere on the front or back covers), this book "is designed as a tool for review and advancement in the language for the advanced beginner and intermediate learner of Spanish". If I did not already have some ability in Spanish I would be lost. On page 3, for example, you are asked to translate complete sentences where no previous instruction was given. "The access fears the critics". I had no idea the word for critics. Page 5: "The smell of enchiladas circulates through the house", but the verb *to circulate* is not listed in the previous 4 pages, or in the glossary. Be prepared to do a lot of research outside of this book.
I've been disappointed in other grammar books, but this one makes everything so clear and precise! It is, by far, the best Spanish grammar book I've seen.I see another reviewer said that if you don't understand the terms in English grammar, you won't be able to follow along. While I know my English grammar pretty well, I still feel they do a great job explaining things in here. I will give an example:Lesson 1:To conjugate a verb in the present tense or in any other tense, you will need the root of a verb and the particular ending that expresses information about the action you wish to communicate. You will find the root (or radical) of the verb in its infinitive form. It is easy to spot an infinitive in English because it is preceded by the word to: to shop, to learn, to receive, etc. Infinitives in Spanish are not preceded by a particular word but can be recognized by one of three endings: -ar, -er, or -ir. The infinitive endings are attached to the root of the verb: habl + ar, beb + er, decid + ir. ...As you can see, it tells you what has to be done, then tells you quite clearly HOW to spot an infinitive in English. Subsequently, I found it strange to see other reviewers complaining that if you don't understand it in English, you won't know how to find it here. I find the book to be incredibly useful.To study Spanish I'm using several systems: Instant Immersion software + Fluencia online. Last night I added in memrise to assist with vocabulary memorization ( a great free website). I felt compelled to find a useful grammar workbook because these approaches don't teach grammar at the beginning, and I was feeling a bit confused. I know they plan to teach grammar later, but as a writer by trade, I wanted to understand the grammar structure sooner, rather than later. This book is entirely useful in that respect, and I can say I'm utterly thrilled with it.

As another American who adores Estonia and has spent quite a bit of time over the years there... I just adore these stories and perspectives!....there are so many layers beneath the usual sights....from the sights to the soul...Rebecca
Probably in an attempt to say, "Understand me!" my Estonian colleague gifted me with the second volume of US American Justin Petrone's expatriation experiences in the dark winters of Tallinn. Petrone writes about his Estonian life with the turns of phrase of an expert and experienced novelist with street smarts. This makes My Estonia 2 a pleasurable read whether intercultural affairs are of interest to the reader or not. The level of description gives the feel of really being at the author's side as he reflects on everything from winter weather workplace politics to shopping for real estate.I am reviewing this book, however, not on these considerable merits, but from the perspective of how the book might be of interest to my fellow interculturalists. What it is in fact is a first hand account of how a stranger looks to sort out his life in a different country, to manage a cross-cultural relationship, juggle a financially precarious work life, and become the father of a spanking new baby girl. It is about the vicissitudes of identity in a strange land. It is about life stages and their challenges as much as about residing abroad. More introspective than the first volume of the same name (see my review), it nonetheless gives enticing descriptions of both the culture and diversity of the Estonian people and the landscapes of the country, to say nothing of the experience of winter in those climes.The events recounted in the book reflect the year 2003. Much of the book concerns Justin and Epp's search for a place to live in the city of Tallinn. The search for real estate reveals the class and economic structure of Estonian sociaty and gives a first hand account of various living conditions and growing class distinctions in a society aping the West after its release from the Soviet sphere and pending its entry into the European Union.One of the most telling events in the narrative is the visit of Petrone's parents from New York to Estonia. This provides him with the dilemma of how to reflect on, explain and perhaps defend his choice of this remote country to his family. It also forces him to observe in his parents the US American habits from which he came, but now feels alienated from, given acculturation to his new Estonian home. His parents' presence and behaviors as well as their ongoing expectations of him are a jolt of awareness of how much he has changed under the influence of his chosen expatriation. His reaction is a mixture of familiarity and embarrassment, causing him to reflect and remark, "I had become the ugliest of Americans, the one who left America and didn't feel particularly bad about it... I had betrayed my nation's sense of universal superiority." It raises the question of what we discover about ourselves and our origins when we live abroad for any length of time.There is a lot of talk currently about the new generation's relationship to mobility and difference as radically different form what we have become accustomed to in living and working abroad. Petrone, at least mentally, belongs to the "global nomad" tribe. At the end of some 350 pages, the reader is as uncertain as Petrone himself about where his future will be lived out, Estonia, Chile, India, Australia, or the Big Apple. His wife Epp is equally mobile in spirit. There is lots of rumination about what cultural context will mean to their lives, in terms of practicalities, but also in terms of what it is to adapt to and succeed in whatever the next chosen environment may bring.Petrone is kind enough to include upfront a map of where Estonia lies on the Baltic Sea, not a bad start, when we have all too many people on either side of the Atlantic who guess that Tallinn is in Italy, somewhere close to Milano.This is a deliberately short review, hopefully just enough to encourage you to have a look, hopefully enjoy and allow the author's reflections to stir your awareness of your own experiences with diversity and to appreciate the strangers in our midst.
