This book helps to really understand agile methodology
I like the overall content of the book, but the publisher should be aware that many people require a little larger font size. Its unfortunate, because the author did a thoughtful job with the content.
The book is a great introductory product for experienced project managers that are not familiar with the Agile Way. I highly recommend this book for other project managers.
Project Management the Agile Way is a content rich book that requires multiple readings to fully appreciate. I initially read the book but found myself returning to specific chapters in response to workspace situations. It was during this topic-focused re-read that the value of the book becomes apparent. I found that I agreed with most but disagreed with some of the recommendations in many cases, due to unique circumstances of attempting to be agile in a government program. The book is written more as a text book complete with end-of-module questions for review and critical thinking. These are helpful in aiding the reader gain an understanding of the material and should not be skipped.John writes from the perspective of traditional project management and outlines a process to adapt these concepts to the agile environment. This perspective is especially valuable to the agile project manger in a non-agile organization. I believe that the true value for project managers is delivered in chapters ten through twelve. The discussion of value in chapter ten should help project managers understand that there are different definitions and measures of value and the fact that the project manager needs to understand how key stakeholders see the project providing value.Despite the fact that agile is gaining in mainstream adoption there are many organizations that cling to traditional methods. Chapter 12,Transitioning to Agile is a valuable guide for that transition process.

With a basic belief - as simple as possible that works, and measure that it is works.Goodpasture has created a well written and content rich (dense) book Project Management the Agile Way: Making It Work in the Enterprise that reviews the elements of "classic" project management with the assumption the reader has a basic understanding, agile variants and how they work in the same topic space and adds his expertise in quantitative methods for a more sophisticated decision making processes for planning, estimating and managing a project. The reader is given a 3 dimensional look at the chapter topics - classis, agile and quantitative view. Actually a fourth is provided for some with history and overview of the concept. There are "take aways" at the end of each chapter which is the author's blend as a baseline, or you can pick your own mix for your specific needs.The book reads much better than most text books I've read on project management subject, and I've read many over the last 15 years. I was introduced to concepts and techniques that I had not read elsewhere, especially in the synthesis of different techniques, the authors insightful summaries of what is important. Hopefully these ideas will improve your ability to successfully manage future efforts.I think the ideal use of this book is in a project management course (quarter or semester) that is focused on software/systems for IT or new product development. This could be tied to either a business, computer science or engineering focused curriculum.It is also a good study and then reference for a project manager that has the basics of a project management methodology and wants a more complete understanding of the chapter topics.From a teacher's perspective, using this book in an advanced project management seminar allows the student to be challenged with understanding the application of concepts, rather than just learning (reciting) a concept. Each chapter or two is a good sitting and has enough references for a class to explore a different one for each student.This book is a well-blended compilation of classis PM, agile methods and quantitative methods and tools. Though the "theme" is agile methods, the author actually give as much coverage of the quantitative methods and the blending of the agile methods with classical approaches, for example to improve scaling agile techniques for enterprise level projects.By the time you finish the book, concepts like Best Value will become part of your thinking process moving forward.The first couple of chapters set the history, vocabulary and framework for the remaining chapters. Each chapter stands alone with a few references to earlier chapters as the reader go through the book. If you want to really understand the concepts with examples that force you to go beyond "OK, I got that" thinking - this is a very good book.So my only warning is - if you don't like quantitative discussions (math), then you will most likely get lost or bored in the examples.I've gone online to check out some of the references, which are extensive. I will probably spend the next couple of months of free time exploring the reference lists for more insights. Just the research and filtering of past writing goodness made the book reading worthwhile.SummaryI agree with other reviews that Goodpasture stays neutral on methodologies, providing overviews and then detailed examples of good ideas and practices regardless of source and age. He is thorough and thoughtful in his considerations and descriptions. Examples, tips and most graphics make the reading both educational and enjoyable. One or two graphics could use some design changes to improve understanding.This is a good study and course book that will require most to limit their readings to one or two chapters at a time so they absorb the details of each chapter. There is very little "fluff" in the 296 pages and the 2 appendixes. Once read, I have started to use the book as a reference when thinking through how I want to handle the various elements of project management for my current project.

About the Author
Captain Steve Browne holds a U.S. Coast Guard license as Master Mariner, Any Gross Tons Upon Oceans. He was awarded a bachelorÂ’s degree in computer studies and a masterÂ’s degree in engineering management, both from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. If you've ever had to study the nautical rules of the road and tried to compare the differences between the international and inland rules by reading the actual rule text, you'll appreciate this book. This is the best side by side comparison I have seen. The differences in the rules themselves are printed in bold font for easy identification. Also, there is helpful, practical insight where clarification of a rule is needed. This insight is given from court case results (helping to define what the authorities deem acceptable actions in traffic situations) and practical experience. If you want to get into the nitty gritty and enjoy reading more legalistic text, Farwell's might suit your fancy, but this book I would recommend to all mariners who are just learning the Rules for the first time and for those who just need to brush up before going back out to sea.

Who Was Winston Churchill? When Winston Churchill walked into the House of Commons to make his first speech as prime minister of England, he was sixty-five years old. He wore a dark suit and a serious face.It was May 13, 1940, and the beginning of World War II, the deadliest war in history. When Winston entered the giant hall, the six hundred Members of Parliament did not applaud. They sat silently. Many of them doubted that England could survive the war. Many wanted to make peace with Adolf Hitler of Germany. “You ask, what is our aim?” Winston boomed into the microphone. “I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terror. Victory however long and hard the road may be. For without victory there is no survival.” The speech was short, but electrifying. When he finished, thunderous applause rose from the crowd. Winston’s powerful words made his audience feel hopeful. Winston Churchill was a master public speaker and writer. As World War II raged on, Winston made many speeches that rallied his people. His voice was broadcast on the radio around the world. He gave people courage during the dark days of the war. Winston lived for ninety years as a soldier, politician, writer, and painter. He endured many failures and setbacks during his long life. But, when he was needed the most, he rose to the challenge. Winston Churchill was the right man, at the right time. Chapter 1: A Royal Childhood Winston Churchill was born two months before his due date on November 30, 1874. Perhaps he was in a hurry to begin his remarkable life! After all, he was the firstborn child to one of the most rich and famous families in England. Winston’s family home was called Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, England. It had 187 rooms and sat on two thousand acres! Queen Victoria ruled England when Winston was born. During her reign, from 1837 to 1901, Great Britain was the most powerful country in the world. The Churchill family was part of the British aristocracy, or the country’s wealthy ruling class. Winston was a member of one of a few hundred British families who held most of the land, money, and power. Winston’s father, Lord Randolph Churchill, came from a long line of British nobility. Lord Randolph’s father—Winston’s grandfather, John Spencer-Churchill—was the seventh Duke of Marlborough. From the day he was born, Winston was taught that Great Britain was the greatest country on earth. “I was a child of the Victorian era,” Winston wrote. “When the realization of the greatness of our empire and of our duty to preserve it was ever growing stronger.” Winston’s mother, Jeanette (Jennie) Jerome, was a beautiful and wealthy American. Jennie’s family was in England on vacation when she met Lord Randolph. They became engaged just days after they met. Winston’s mother and father loved their son. But, like most wealthy English parents at the time, they did not spend much time with him. Instead, Randolph spent his days working for the British government. Jennie spent her days going to parties. As an adult, Winston wrote that his mother “shone for me like the evening star. I loved her dearly, but at a distance.” Winston was raised and adored by his nanny, Mrs. Elizabeth Everest. He called her “Woomany.” Woomany looked after Winston for his entire childhood. She cared for him all day and tucked him into bed at night. When Winston was two, the Churchills moved to Dublin, Ireland. Winston’s grandfather became an official for the British government there. Winston’s father went to work for him as his personal secretary. Winston was a lonely child and had few playmates. But he loved playing with his toy soldiers in his family’s garden. He fought pretend battles and made forts for the soldiers in the dirt. Winston’s only sibling, his brother, John (Jack) Stranger Spencer-Churchill, was born when Winston was five years old. He and Jack were good friends their entire lives. Soon after Jack was born, Lord Randolph started a new job in the British government. The Churchills moved back to London. Like many wealthy English boys, Winston was sent to boarding school when he was seven. He attended St. George’s School in Ascot, England. The headmaster at St. George’s was a strict man who beat the boys if they misbehaved. “How I hated this school,” Winston said. “I counted the days and hours to the end of every term.” Winston missed his brother, Jack. He also hated most of his subjects, especially math. He loved to escape by reading books. One of his favorites was Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, a story about pirates searching for gold. Winston dreamed of having his own adventures someday. When Winston was twelve, he was enrolled at the Harrow School. It was one of the most well-known boys schools in England. Before Winston arrived, six graduates of the school had already gone on to become prime minister—the political leader—of England. Winston spent four years at Harrow. He was a poor student in science and math, but he was a gifted writer. He could also memorize long poems. His favorite poem was Lays of Ancient Rome by Lord Macaulay. The poem was 1,200 lines about heroes and death in battle. He recited the poem with emotion, like a great actor. Winston also became the fencing champion at Harrow. He loved waging “battles,” fighting with swords against his fencing opponents. Winston wrote many letters to his parents while at boarding school. They wrote to him as well, but rarely visited. Instead, Winston’s former nanny, Mrs. Everest, visited him at Harrow. She also visited Jack, who was at a different boarding school at the time. After Harrow, Winston joined the military. He loved the idea of becoming a soldier. Winston took the entrance exam for the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, a training center for future British officers. He failed twice. But Winston never gave up. He finally passed on his third try. It was September 1893, and Winston was nineteen years old. He couldn’t wait to fight for his beloved Great Britain.

This line of books is a great way to get a good base knowledge of people that stood out in history. They definitely are easy reads maybe a fourth grade level I'm guessing but if you read it even as an adult you get a good basis and that will give you a desire or let you know that you don't want to go any further . I have every book in the series that I have seen and will continue to purchase if I find others that I do not have. They are beneficial for younger or older students.
This is an amazing book as it gives a condensed account of his life. I am 75 years old and was at the University of Nottingham studying for my Electrical Engineering Degree when he died. There was only B & W TV at my hall of residence and the room was packed with mourners, all of us.Ellen Labrecque has done a marvellous job.Thanks Ellen.
I believe Winston Churchill to have been the greatest leader of the world period. That being said; is more than a mouthful.
9-year-old nephew LOVES these books. And if you want a kid to learn real history these days, you have to find tools like this to teach them yourself. Recommended.

My kids love these books. It's getting 3 stars instead of 5, because the price is just ridiculous for an ebook.
Too short and it feels like it’s missing pages. The sentences are unusually halting and short even for a picture book. My four year old was disappointed.
Kids loved it
Nickelodeon is not a proper educator and my 5 year old was sorely disappointed he could not read this level 1book because its actually beyond level 3. This is getting frustrating because he is a great level reader 1 and doesnt deserve this poor target marketing. Do not get this book for level 1 readers.
